A vacant field beside Longview Presbyterian Church is now home to forty families, seniors, and veterans, with a set-aside for households exiting homelessness.
The church looked at the land next to their doors and saw a chance to serve their community. They partnered with Housing Opportunities of Southwest Washington, who hired ZBA to design an intergenerational community: family townhomes alongside single-story homes built for seniors to age in place, plus dedicated units for veterans and a set-aside for households exiting homelessness.
The partnership didn't end at the property line. A pedestrian path connects the church to the neighborhood it helped create, and inside the community building, a dedicated study space hosts ongoing tutoring and mentorship from church volunteers — a living example of what community-rooted development can look like.
