For years, men escaping the summer heat or winter cold slept in a dark, damp basement — no daylight, no privacy, no room to sit together as neighbors.
Christian Aid Center's mission is meeting people where they are and helping them rebuild, so the new building was designed around that same idea: shared community spaces instead of isolation, natural light and private rooms for guests in crisis, and full accessibility throughout. Overnight shelter and CAC's two-year recovery program share one roof rather than two, so a man staying his first night and a resident further into recovery cross paths daily — sharing meals, sharing space, and sometimes, mentorship.
That's by design. The building doesn't just shelter people; it puts recovery in view, so guests can see what's possible next.
